Thorsten Haas is an anaesthesiologist who specializes in paediatric anaesthesia. He is senior staff anaesthetist at University Children's Hospital Zurich, Switzerland.

Dr. Haas grew up in Germany graduated from Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and completed his anaesthesiology residency in Germany and Austria. He is a certified clinical risk manager and has gained qualification as chief emergency physician in Tirol, Austria.

The research interests of Dr. Haas include point-of-care coagulation testing, the influence of colloids on hemostasis, and perioperative coagulation management with special focus on paediatric major surgeries. Recent publications include a comparison of several coagulation test devices with the ROTEM®, perioperative coagulation management of children, the influence of crystalloids and colloids on hemostasis, the use of fibrinogen for treating dilutional coagulopathy. At present, he is sponsor of a phase IV trial that compares two different laboratory thresholds for the use of fibrinogen during major paediatric surgery (FibPaed study). He is a peer reviewer for multiple major anaesthesia journals. From 2007 to 2009 Dr. Haas has worked as medical director in clinical research & development at CSL Behring Marburg, Germany. During this time he was responsible for medical/therapeutical concepts of phase I-IV studies, collaboration with key opinion leaders worldwide, and medical expert for contacts to authorities (FDA, EMEA, PEI).
Dr. Haas is currently member of the European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESA) Subgroup for Perioperative Coagulation Management.

He lives in Zurich, Switzerland and Innsbruck, Austria together with his wife Claudia and his two children Jennifer and Lukas.
